In 2019 and 2020, Dan was named one of Forbes’ Magazine Best-in State Wealth Advisors.* He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®), Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designee, and an Investment Advisor Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network. Dan is also the co-author of Grief Odyssey: The Life-Changing Experiences of Two Widowers with Children. Unlike many books on terminal illness, Grief Odyssey is written for the surviving spouse rather than the one facing death. Dan and his co-author, Douglas O'Neill, share their personal journeys, from the fateful diagnosis of cancer to the long years of emotional recovery, and offer wisdom on preparing for a spouse's death, adjusting to being a single parent, and eventually finding healing. The book not only is written for the surviving spouse but also for the families and friends who are also dealing with this life-challenge. Dan consults and advises many widowers, widows, their families, and friends on financial issues such as how to avoid potential pitfalls of others taking advantage of their inheritance or settlements. Please refer to the News and Education section of the website, Recent News and Special Features section, if you are interested in purchasing Grief Odyssey.

Dan lives with his wife, Patty, in Morrison, Colorado. Dan and Patty have three children: Alisha and husband Dave, Brett and wife Jen, and Danielle, as well as six grandchildren: Jaelyn, Grace, Adison, Tavin, Blake and Kendal.

Daniel Gilbertson is proud to have been recognized as a Leaders Level advisor each year since 2014 —a distinction based on annual production attained by just 10 percent of advisors affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network.

*The ranking of the Forbes’ Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list was developed by SHOOK Research and is based on in-person and telephone due-diligence meetings to evaluate each advisor quantitatively and on a ranking algorithm that includes client retention, industry experience, review of compliance records, firm nominations, and quantitative criteria (including assets under management and revenue generated for their firms). Overall, 32,000 advisors were considered, and 4,000 (12.5) percent of candidates) were recognized. This recognition and the due-diligence process conducted are not indicative of the advisor’s future performance. Your experience may vary. Winners are organized and ranked by state. Some states may have more advisors than others. You are encouraged to conduct your own research to determine if the advisor is right for you. Portfolio performance is not a criterion due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. SHOOK does not receive a fee in exchange for rankings.
